The Young Toddler Community

Exploration. Participation. Emerging independence.

A bridge from infancy into active discovery, where children begin engaging with their environment and participating in everyday routines.

The Young Toddler community is a natural extension of Nido, thoughtfully prepared for infants who are becoming mobile and eager to explore their surroundings. As children begin standing, walking, communicating, and participating in their own care, we offer a safe and beautiful environment that encourages movement, discovery, and emerging independence without rushing development. We follow the child, honoring each individual pace while providing consistent care, predictable routines, and meaningful opportunities to participate in daily life.

Age range - approximately 9 months up to 24 months

What makes us special

You will notice:

We believe independence does not begin when a child can do everything alone. It begins when a child is given the opportunity to try.

We do not expect mastery. We prepare the environment, model the process, and allow children the time and space to practice.

  • Low, accessible shelves and developmentally appropriate materials
  • Opportunities for standing, walking, carrying, and exploring
  • Simple activities that encourage repetition and concentration
  • Child-sized furniture and spaces that support independence
  • Natural materials and purposeful, uncluttered environments
  • Calm, respectful caregiving and consistent expectations
  • Guides who observe closely and offer assistance without unnecessarily interrupting
  • Predictable routines that help children feel secure
