The Children's House Community

Concentration. Capability. Community.

Children deepen their independence through purposeful work, develop foundational academic skills, practice Grace and Courtesy, and build the confidence to direct their own learning.

Children’s House is the heart of the Montessori method and the age group Dr. Maria Montessori studied most closely when she first developed her approach. Through her work with three- to six-year-olds, she discovered how naturally children learn when they are given freedom within structure, beautiful materials, and gentle guidance. Mixed-age classrooms allow younger children to learn by watching older peers, while older children build confidence and leadership by helping guide those younger than them. In this age group, children are steadily focused on their academics through hands-on materials they choose for themselves. Children also practice Grace and Courtesy daily, learning how to communicate kindly, care for their environment, and respect one another. As independence grows, so does focus, self-confidence, and a genuine love of learning.

  • Children working independently or in small groups
  • Built-in self-correction through “control of error” activities
